The View From The Shore
We have over 100 feet of private shoreline! The shoreline is mostly rocky - with an added sandy area for kids to play in. We have a large deck directly on the beach with sun chairs and drink table. We have a dock that brings you from this sun deck out to the waist deep water. At the end of the dock we have a bench, on this bench you feel as if you are floating on the water. The dock can be used for sunning or relaxing with your fishing pole. Really nice. One main thing people like w our cottage and beach the quite/natural setting.
The Water
The lake bottom is both sandy and rocky. After you leave the shore in a few feet the bottom is most all sand.
You (and the Children) Can Splash and Play and Swim
The lake bottom is great for children because it is shallow for several feet with a very gradual slope into the deep waters. This has a large area for small children to play in the water. We are not in a weedy water area. The water at Northport Cottage is great for swimming! Hard to find a better place to swim. The swim raft is an additional benefit that is not found often with other cottages.
Bring your own boat or rent watercraft nearby
We have contacts with several companies that deliver a watercraft to our location (jet ski, fishing boats, or ect). You could hook up to our mooring! With a small boat hook up to our dock. We also have a contact for Kayak delivery available which is extreemly poplar with renters.
Going Fishing?
The fishing is great in this area! Within minutes you can be out in the open waters of Lake Michigan or you can stay within the shelter of the bay. With a large fishing boat, you can take a boat ride to Charlevoix, Traverse City, Suttons Bay, Leland, or any of the number of day trips available in this area. We also have charter fishing trips in this area.
Great Lakes Heritage - the Grand Traverse Lighthouse
Within a few miles of the cottage is the well know Grand Traverse Lighthouse! It marks the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula! The Grand Traverse Lighthouse has guided sailors and their ships safely into the Manitou Passage, Straits of Mackinaw and Grand Traverse Bay for nearly 150 years.
Today, one can tour the restored lighthouse resembling a keeper's home of the 1920's and 30's. Exhibits on area lighthouses, foghorns, shipwrecks and local history are located in the Lighthouse and Fog Signal Building. The restored air diaphone foghorn is demonstrated throughout the year, and visitors can climb the tower for a spectacular view of Lake Michigan.
