Hotel Iroquois on the Beach

The Hotel Iroquois is happy to welcome a new Michigan family as its owner. Jon Cotton recently purchased the hotel from the McIntire family who have owned and managed the Iroquois since 1954. After 66 years of stewardship of this Mackinac Island jewel, Mrs. McIntire said of the sale, “Although this is a bittersweet moment for me, I am pleased that another Michigan family will be working with all our great staff and carrying on the traditions of hospitality and excellence for which the Iroquois is known.” Hotel Investment Services of Troy, Michigan will oversee the management of the property working with Mrs. McIntire's grandson Sam Barnwell as General Manager. Rest assured Sam and the long-time management team and employees will continue the Hotel Iroquois' high standards and traditions you have come to enjoy and expect throughout the years. ... My wife and I met there while working for the McIntires back in 99. So nice to see that the hotel will be owned by a family and Sam will be running the hotel.

The Iroquois and the leadership of Mrs. Mac are a defining example/inspiration to me, and have been for years. Congratulations!

I worked for the McIntires 38 years ago and was so fortunate to run into her a couple of weeks ago! The Iroquois is a beautiful and superbly run island institution! Still classy and upscale after all these years! Way to go Mrs Mack! Congratulations! ❤️💐

I worked as a waitress in 1979, the year they filmed “Somewhere in Time” with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeves . They dined at the Carriage House often. I will always cherish the fond memories of that summer at The Iroquois . Mrs. McIntire was a positive influence in my life ,to strive for the best. Wishing her peace and joy.

We honeymooned at the Iroquois Hotel in July ‘71. I have visited the Hotel nearly every year since 1960 with my parents. My sister and I were friends with the McIntire kids. So many memories.

Best wishes for the McIntire Family. I worked in the front office in 1990 and truly enjoyed getting to know Mrs Mac, Becky and Cindy. I loved going back to say hi in the summers. I hope they are able to enjoy their retirement and that the Cotton family keeps up with the strict standards of service and luxury that they have established. Xoxo

So beautiful! Thank you McIntire family for taking such good care of this beautiful hotel!

Beautiful hotel ... wish the McIntire family all the best and wish the new owners well ... it is a gem of a place ...

First overnight stay on the island with my parents, I think I was 10? 1976? Spent many summer vacations there with my parents...so many wonderful memories. It is where my LOVE of the island began. I remember sitting on the open porch drawing all by myself and running to the lobby to ask questions for my parents.😉 I have always admired Mrs. McIntire and what a fine establishment she ran. Growing up in a family business I knew what a labor of love it was!♥️♥️♥️ Your hard work did not go unnoticed.♥️♥️♥️ Fond memories always....

When I think of the word quality I immediately pictured The Iroquois Hotel and the solid leadership of the McIntire family. I can think of no else who had such an attention to cleanliness, service, and of course quality than this family. What a great reign they have enjoyed and the new owners will have a lot of work ahead of them trying to meet the high standards this family has established.

Congratulations and best wishes to the McIntire family!

My favorite place to stay on the island. Thanks for all the great memories.

Married on the lawn!

Congratulations to Mrs. McIntire!!! Love her!! ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️

Best wishes on your retirement, Mrs. Mac. We enjoyed many wonderful stays at the Iroquois. Hopefully, we'll be back some time soon.

Best wishes, Mrs. Mac. I worked as a waitress for you in the summer of 1963 and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I still remember being on the serving team you chose to serve Gov. George Romney. Thank you for always being gracious and patient.

Congratulations to Mrs. Mac and family. Cheers to establishing traditions that will long be honored. 🥂🍾

My mother and I had some very happy times staying at the Iroquois. It was just by chance that we read that magazine article long ago which led to many years of Lilac Festivals!

I’m sure Sam will carry on the family tradition with great success but we should all remember the the “seen-from-space-size” footprints Mrs Mac left behind. Her demanding standards and execution made the Iroquois world class and a significant part of many people’s lives, especially employees. I have to say this is sad

Congratulations on your retirement - we hope the new owners will keep the excellent standards you have established.

My favorite place on the Island!!! Thank you McIntire family for the memories and congrats for your next chapter of retirement. Glad that Sam will continue to be a part of it all!!!!

Best wishes, Mrs Mac! I loved working for you in 1976! A wonderful experience. The Iroquois is a beautiful and well run hotel!

Congrats on your retirement! The only place I stay when I visit the Island. You make the stay perfect. The attention to detail makes the stay special. I recommend it to everyone that tells me they are heading to visit.

Thank you Mrs Mac for making all of our stays memorable!!! The very best to you and your family as you move into retirement....

Best wishes on your retirement, McIntire family! You have been so nice to us all these years, you will be missed!

Congratulations on your retirement! Sounds like the hotel will continue in good hands.

Best of luck to your new owners, but the McIntire family will be missed!!!

Mrs. Mac, I’m sure this is bittersweet for you, but sounds like it will be in great hands. Enjoy your retirement, no one deserves it more!! Our very best wishes!

I’m sure this is bittersweet. Glad to hear Sam will be general manager and look forward to our next visit to the island!

I speak of you frequently at work, Mrs Mac. In 1989, I worked for you as a housekeeper. Your husband had just passed and you told me that when I was a nurse to please keep the hospital clean. You taught me how to do that. I have accomplished that to the best of my capabilities. My husband (I met him that summer) worked maintenance that year and we were the only two from Indiana. We can’t thank you enough for our summer there. We will cherish it forever. Congratulations on your much deserved retirement. No one can beat your standards, but I am sure they will try. ❤️ I think you would have liked me as a nurse as much as you liked me as a housekeeper. You always made me want to be exceptional.

Thanks for your wonderful hospitality, wishing you all the best! Glad family is still managing.

Best wishes to all of you. I loved working for you, and I hope the new owners don’t change it too much! ❤️🐢🚲

The only thing that is certain is change. Hats off to the McIntire's. They did a great job. I wish the new owners the best.

Bittersweet for sure! I dream of going back up there and working at the Iroquois every year... we’ll miss you guys! ❤️

Congratulations on your retirement and congratulations to the new owners.

All the BEST Wishes for the families, friends, and employees/staff of the Iroquois. An iconic place to stay on Mackinac!!

It is our favorite hotel on the island and we were there 2 weeks ago. Hope to be back in September. The employees are the best, the restaurant is the best on the island (and we have tried all of them). We

Our favourite! We had to postpone our annual reservation this year to 2021. Guess I better give y’all a call to confirm nothing has changed. Best wishes Mrs. Mac!

Thank you for all your years of service Mrs. Mac! You have given thousands of people memories they will never forget. May God bless you in your retirement 🙏
